I hate social media. It sucked up all my time and made me feel miserable. Over the last few months, I’ve slowly deleted all the time-wasting apps off my phone, and honestly? My life has gotten so much better. I feel more productive, present, social, and free from the noise of neurotypical society. But I won’t lie: it's isolating. There’s this weird loneliness that creeps in when you're not tapped into the cultural zeitgeist everyone else is swimming in.
Most people I know aren’t ready to delete their socials because, for them, it’s the only line they have to old friends, distant acquaintances, or even their own identity in some way; that is SO valid. When I got rid of Instagram, I had to be okay with the fact that I was basically letting go of a bunch of people I genuinely cared about. That part sucked. But the thing is: everyone hates social media. Like, literally everyone. We all complain about how shitty it makes us feel, and yet we stay with it like a toxic relationship cause at least its better than being alone.
